For the music leader. With stringed instruments. A Psalm by Asaph. A song. God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.
His tent is also in Salem; his home is in Zion.
There he broke the flaming arrows from bows, and shattered shields, swords, and other weapons of war.
You are glorious and excellent, more than mountains filled with game animals.
Brave men lie plundered; they have fallen into their final sleep. None of the warriors can lift their hands.
At your command, God of Jacob, both chariots and horses fall into a deep, lifeless sleep.
You, and only you, are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?
You announced judgment from heaven. The earth was afraid and silent,
when God rose up to judge, to save all the oppressed people on earth.
Even human anger brings you praise. You restrain the last bit of their wrath.
Make promises to Yahweh your God, and keep them! Let all his neighbors bring gifts to the God who is to be feared.
He will break the spirit of princes. He is feared by the kings of the earth.
