Psalms

Chapter 63

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

1A Psalm by David, when he was in the desert of Judah. God, you are my God. I will actively search for you. My soul is thirsty for you. My body longs for you, in a dry and tired land where there is no water.

2I have seen you in your holy place, observing your power and your glory.

3Because your unfailing love is better than life itself, my lips will praise you.

4So I will bless you as long as I live. I will lift up my hands in your name.

5My soul will be as satisfied as if I had eaten the richest food. I will praise you with joyful lips,

6when I remember you in my bed and think about you in the middle of the night.

7Because you have helped me, I will sing for joy under the protection of your wings.

8My soul stays close to you. Your strong hand supports me.

9But those who want to destroy my life will go down into the deepest parts of the earth.

10They will be killed by the sword. They will become food for jackals.

11But the king will be happy in God. Everyone who makes promises in God's name will praise him, because the mouths of liars will be shut.
