Psalms

Chapter 5

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

For the choir director: with flutes. A Psalm by David. Listen to my words, Yahweh; consider my groaning.

Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to you.

Yahweh, in the morning you will hear my voice; in the morning I will present my requests to you and wait expectantly.

For you are not a God who delights in evil; wickedness cannot reside with you.

Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong.

You will destroy those who tell lies; Yahweh detests murderers and deceivers.

But because of your great love, I will come into your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in awe of you.

Lead me, Yahweh, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your path straight before me.

For there is no truth in what they say; their hearts are filled with destruction. Their throats are like open graves; they use their tongues to flatter.

Declare them guilty, God; let them fall by their own schemes. Drive them out because of their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them always shout for joy because you protect them. Let those who love your name be joyful in you.

For you bless the righteous, Yahweh; you surround them with your favor like a shield.
