For the choir director: with stringed instruments, on the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David. Yahweh, do not scold me in your anger, or discipline me in your wrath.
Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am weak. Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are trembling.
My soul is also in great anguish. But you, Yahweh—how long will this last?
Come back, Yahweh. Rescue me, and save me because of your unfailing love.
When people die, they can’t remember you. In the grave, who can thank you?
I am worn out from all my groaning. Every night I soak my bed; I drench my couch with my tears.
My vision is blurry from grief. It has grown weak because of all my enemies.
Get away from me, all you who do evil, for Yahweh has heard my weeping.
Yahweh has heard my plea. Yahweh accepts my prayer.
May all my enemies be ashamed and terrified. May they turn back and be suddenly disgraced.
