Micah

Chapter 3

Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly.

Then I said, “Please listen, you leaders of Jacob, and rulers of the people of Israel: Shouldn’t you know what is right?

You hate what is good and love what is evil. You tear the skin from people’s bodies and the flesh from their bones;

They eat the flesh of my people, strip off their skin, break their bones, and chop them up like meat for a pot.

Then they will cry out to Yahweh, but he won't answer them. He will turn away from them at that time, because their actions were evil.

Yahweh says this about the prophets who lead my people astray: they promise 'Peace!' to those who feed them, but they prepare for war against anyone who doesn't give them food.

Therefore, night will come upon you, and you will have no visions. It will be dark for you, so you cannot predict the future. The sun will set on the prophets, and the day will become dark over them.

The seers will be ashamed, and the fortune-tellers disgraced. Yes, they will all cover their mouths, because there will be no answer from God.

But as for me, I am filled with power by Yahweh's Spirit, with justice and strength, to tell Jacob about his disobedience and Israel about his sin.

Please listen to this, you leaders of Jacob and rulers of Israel, who hate justice and twist everything that is right.

They build up Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with wickedness.

Her leaders take bribes to judge, her priests teach for money, and her prophets predict the future for a fee. Yet they rely on Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh is with us; no disaster will strike us.”

Because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a pile of ruins, and the temple mountain will be overgrown like a forest.
