Matthew

Chapter 7

Jesus, the promised King.

“Don’t judge others, so that you won’t be judged.

Because the way you judge others is how you will be judged, and the standard you use to measure others will be used to measure you.

Why do you see the tiny speck in your brother’s eye, but don't pay attention to the log in your own eye?

Or how can you tell your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there’s a log in your own eye?

You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

“Don’t give what is holy to dogs, and don’t throw your pearls to pigs. Otherwise, they might trample them under their feet and then turn and attack you.

“Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives. The one who searches finds. And to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Is there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, would give him a stone instead?

Or if he asks for a fish, would give him a snake?

So if you, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Therefore, do to others what you would want them to do to you. This is the meaning of the Law and the Prophets.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and many people go that way.

But the gate is narrow and the road is difficult that leads to life, and only a few people find it.

“Beware of false prophets. They come to you looking like sheep, but inwardly they are hungry wolves.

You will recognize them by the way they act. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?

Similarly, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit.

A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit.

Every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

So you will know them by the results of their lives.

Not everyone who calls me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who do what my Father in heaven wants will enter.

On the day of judgment, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we speak prophesies in your name? Didn’t we use your name to drive out demons and perform many powerful miracles?’

Then I will tell them clearly, ‘I never knew you. Go away from me, you who do evil.’

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on solid rock.

The rain came down, the floods rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house. But it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock.

But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

The rain came down, the floods rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house. It fell with a great crash.”

When Jesus finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed by his teaching,

because he taught them with authority, not like their religious teachers.
