“‘If someone sins by failing to speak up when they are a witness in court, whether they saw or know about something, they will be held responsible.
“‘Or if someone touches something unclean—like the dead body of an unclean wild animal, unclean livestock, or unclean crawling creatures—and doesn't realize it at first, they become unclean and are guilty.
“‘Or if someone touches human uncleanness of any kind and doesn't realize it at first, but later finds out, they are guilty.
“‘Or if someone thoughtlessly makes a promise under oath, whether to do something bad or good, and they don't realize it at first, but later find out, they are guilty of one of these things.
When they are guilty of one of these things, they must confess the sin they committed.
They must bring their guilt offering to Yahweh for the sin they committed. It must be a female animal from the flock—a lamb or a goat—as a sin offering. The priest will perform a ritual to make them right with God concerning their sin.
“‘If they cannot afford a lamb, then they must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to Yahweh as a guilt offering for the sin they committed: one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.
They must bring them to the priest, who will first offer the one for the sin offering. The priest will wring its head from its neck, but not completely sever it.
The priest will sprinkle some of the sin offering's blood on the side of the altar, and the rest of the blood will be drained at the base of the altar. This is a sin offering.
Then the priest will offer the second bird as a burnt offering, according to the rules. The priest will perform a ritual to make them right with God concerning the sin they committed, and they will be forgiven.
“‘But if they cannot afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then they must bring a tenth of an ephah of fine flour as an offering for their sin. They must not put any olive oil or frankincense on it, because it is a sin offering.
They must bring it to the priest, and the priest will take a handful of it as a memorial portion and burn it on the altar, along with Yahweh's offerings made by fire. It is a sin offering.
The priest will perform a ritual to make them right with God concerning the sin they committed in any of these things, and they will be forgiven. The rest of the flour will belong to the priest, like the grain offering.’"
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
“If someone accidentally does something wrong against Yahweh’s holy things, they must bring a flawless ram from the flock to Yahweh as a guilt offering. Its value, measured in silver shekels according to the holy standard, will be set by you.
They must repay what they did wrong against the holy thing, add an additional fifth to its value, and give it to the priest. The priest will perform a ritual to make them right with God using the ram of the guilt offering, and they will be forgiven.
“If someone sins by doing any of the things Yahweh has forbidden, even if they didn’t know it, they are still guilty and will be held responsible.
They must bring a flawless ram from the flock, valued by you, to the priest as a guilt offering. The priest will perform a ritual to make them right with God concerning the sin they committed without knowing it, and they will be forgiven.
It is a guilt offering. They are surely guilty before Yahweh.”
