Joshua

Chapter 15

God gives His people a home.

The territory allotted to the tribe of Judah, arranged by families, extended to the border of Edom, all the way to the wilderness of Zin in the deepest part of the south.

Their southern border started from the southern tip of the Salt Sea, from the bay that faces south.

The border went south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, continued to Zin, went up south of Kadesh Barnea, continued past Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned toward Karka.

It continued to Azmon, went out at the Brook of Egypt, and ended at the sea. This was to be your southern border.

The eastern border was the Salt Sea, all the way to the end of the Jordan River. The border on the northern side started from the bay of the sea at the end of the Jordan.

The border went up to Beth Hoglah, continued north of Beth Arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan, Reuben's son.

The border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, then turned north towards Gilgal, which faces the Ascent of Adummim, on the south side of the river. The border continued to the waters of En Shemesh and ended at En Rogel.

The border went up through the Valley of Ben Hinnom to the southern side of the Jebusite territory (which is Jerusalem). Then the border went up to the top of the mountain west of the Valley of Hinnom, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.

The border extended from the top of the mountain to the Spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of Mount Ephron. The border then extended to Baalah (also called Kiriath Jearim).

The border turned west from Baalah to Mount Seir, continued to the northern side of Mount Jearim (also called Chesalon), went down to Beth Shemesh, and continued past Timnah.

The border went out to the northern side of Ekron, extended to Shikkeron, continued to Mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel. The border finally ended at the sea.

The western border was the shore of the Great Sea. This describes the border of the tribe of Judah according to their family groups.

According to Yahweh's command to Joshua, Caleb son of Jephunneh received a portion among the people of Judah: Kiriath Arba, named after Anak's father (which is Hebron).

Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, who were descendants of Anak.

He went up against the residents of Debir, which was previously called Kiriath Sepher.

Caleb said, "Whoever attacks Kiriath Sepher and captures it, I will give him my daughter Achsah as his wife."

Othniel, the son of Kenaz and Caleb's brother, captured it; so Caleb gave him his daughter Achsah as his wife.

When she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. She got off her donkey, and Caleb asked her, "What do you want?"

She said, "Give me a special gift. Since you have given me land in the dry south, also give me springs of water." So he gave her both the upper and lower springs.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of Judah according to their family groups.
