Joshua

Chapter 16

God gives His people a home.

1The land allotted to the descendants of Joseph started at the Jordan River near Jericho, by the waters of Jericho on the east. It extended into the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill country to Bethel.

2From Bethel, the border went to Luz and continued to the land of the Archites at Ataroth.

3Then it went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, to the border of Lower Beth Horon, and on to Gezer, ending at the sea.

4The descendants of Joseph, both Manasseh and Ephraim, received their land.

5This was the border for the descendants of Ephraim according to their family groups. The eastern border of their land was Ataroth Addar, extending to Upper Beth Horon.

6The border went out westward to Michmethath on the north. The border then turned eastward to Taanath Shiloh, and passed along its east side to Janoah.

7From Janoah, it went down to Ataroth, to Naarah, reached Jericho, and ended at the Jordan River.

8From Tappuah, the border extended westward to the Kanah Brook and ended at the sea. This is the land given to the tribe of Ephraim’s descendants according to their families.

9This included cities set aside for the descendants of Ephraim within the Manasseh territory—all the cities and their surrounding villages.

10However, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So, the Canaanites live in Ephraim’s territory to this day and have become their forced laborers.
