“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me as well.
In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there weren’t, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, so that you may also be where I am.
You know where I am going, and you know the way.”
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus replied, “Philip, have I been with you for such a long time, and you still don’t know me? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? The words I speak to you are not my own; the Father living in me does his works.
Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe because of the works themselves.
I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have been doing. In fact, they will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.
If you love me, obey my commands.
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever —
he is the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive him because it doesn't see him or know him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you like orphans; I will come back to you.
In a little while, the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
On that day, you will know that I am united with my Father, and you are united with me, and I am united with you.
Anyone who has my commands and obeys them is the one who loves me. My Father will love anyone who loves me, and I will love them and show myself to them.”
Judas (not Judas Iscariot) asked him, “Lord, why are you going to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, they will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
Anyone who does not love me does not obey my words. The message you are hearing is not my own; it is from the Father who sent me.
I have told you all of this while I am still with you.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.
I am leaving you with peace. I am giving you my peace. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.
I have told you this now before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me.
But the world must know that I love the Father, and I do exactly what the Father has commanded me. Get up, let’s leave this place.
