Isaiah

Chapter 53

Hope and the coming Savior.

Who has believed our message? To whom has the power of Yahweh been revealed?

He grew up before him like a tender shoot, like a root out of dry ground. He had no impressive looks or majesty; when we saw him, there was nothing beautiful about him that we should desire him.

He was hated and rejected by people; he was a man of suffering, familiar with pain. He was like someone people turn away from; we didn’t respect him.

Surely he has carried our sicknesses and endured our suffering. Yet we thought he was being punished by God, struck down and afflicted.

But he was pierced for the wrongs we committed; he was crushed for the evil we did. The punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

All of us, like sheep, have gone astray. Each of us has turned to his own way; and Yahweh has placed on him the sin of us all.

He was oppressed and mistreated, yet he did not open his mouth. He was led like a lamb to be slaughtered, and like a sheep silent before its shearers, so he did not open his mouth.

He was taken away through oppression and injustice. And as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off from the land of the living and struck down for the wrongdoing of my people?

They intended to bury him with the wicked, but he was (buried) with a rich man in his death, even though he had done no wrong and spoken no lies.

Yet, it pleased Yahweh to crush him and cause him to suffer. When you make his life an offering for sin, he will see his descendants and prolong his days, and the will of Yahweh will succeed through him.

After his soul’s suffering, he will see light and be satisfied. My righteous servant will make many righteous through his knowledge; and he will carry their sins.

Therefore, I will give him a share with the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he willingly faced death and was counted among criminals. He indeed carried the sin of many and interceded for the offenders.
