Ezekiel

Chapter 47

Wild visions of God's glory.

He brought me back to the entrance of the temple. And look, water was flowing out from under the threshold of the temple towards the east (because the front of the temple faced east). The water flowed down from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar.

Then he brought me out through the gate that faced north. He led me around the outside to the outer gate, which faced east. I saw water flowing out from the right side.

The man walked east with a measuring line in his hand. He measured 1,000 cubits, and then he led me through the water, which came up to my ankles.

He measured another 1,000 cubits, and led me through the water, which came up to my knees. He measured another 1,000 cubits, and led me through the water, which came up to my waist.

After that, he measured another 1,000 cubits, and it was now a river that I could not cross. The water had risen so high that it was deep enough to swim in, a river that no one could walk through.

He asked me, "Son of man, have you seen this?" Then he brought me back to the bank of the river.

When I returned, I saw many trees on both sides of the riverbank.

Then he told me, "These waters flow out toward the eastern region, go down into the Arabah Valley, and then flow into the Dead Sea. The sea's waters will become fresh.

Every living creature that swarms will live wherever these rivers flow. There will be a huge number of fish, because these waters have come there, and the waters of the sea will become fresh. Everything will live wherever this river goes.

Fishermen will stand by it, from En Gedi all the way to En Eglaim. It will be a place for spreading nets. Their fish will be many kinds, like the fish of the Mediterranean Sea, a great abundance.

But its muddy areas and its swamps will not become fresh; they will be left for salt.

On both sides of the riverbank, every kind of tree that produces food will grow. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fresh fruit every month, because their waters come from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing."

The Lord Yahweh says: "This will be the border by which you will divide the land as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph will receive two portions.

You will inherit it equally, because I swore to give it to your ancestors. This land will be your inheritance.

This is how the land will be bordered: On the north side, it will extend from the Mediterranean Sea, along the way to Hethlon, to the entrance of Zedad;

including Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim (which is between the borders of Damascus and Hamath), and Hazer Hatticon (which is along the border of Hauran).

The border from the sea will be Hazar Enon, on the border of Damascus. To the north, the border continues along the border of Hamath. This is the north side.

The east side, between Hauran and Damascus, and Gilead, and the land of Israel, will be the Jordan River. You will measure from the northern border to the eastern sea. This is the east side.

The south side, toward the south, will run from Tamar as far as the waters of Meriboth Kadesh, to the Brook of Egypt, to the Mediterranean Sea. This is the south-southern side.

The west side will be the Mediterranean Sea, from the southern border as far as opposite the entrance of Hamath. This is the west side.

So you will divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel.

You must divide the land by lots. It will be an inheritance for you and for the foreigners living among you who have children born in your land. These foreigners will be treated like those born among the people of Israel; they will receive an inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

The Lord Yahweh says that in whatever tribe a foreigner lives, you must give him his inheritance there.
