Ezekiel

Chapter 41

Wild visions of God's glory.

He brought me to the main part of the temple and measured the posts. They were six cubits wide on each side, which was the width of the main sanctuary.

The entrance was 10 cubits wide. The sides of the entrance were five cubits on each side. He measured its length, 40 cubits, and its width, 20 cubits.

Then he went further inside and measured each post of the inner entrance, two cubits. The entrance itself was six cubits, and its width was seven cubits.

He measured its length, 20 cubits, and its width, 20 cubits, in front of the temple. He said to me, "This is the Most Holy Place."

Then he measured the wall of the temple, which was six cubits thick. The width of each side room was four cubits, all around the temple.

The side rooms were in three stories, stacked one above another, with 30 rooms in each story. They were built into the temple wall so they would be supported and not penetrate the wall of the temple itself.

The side rooms became wider on the upper levels because the walls of the temple were narrower at the higher levels. So the width of the temple increased as it went upward. People went up from the lowest level to the highest through the middle level.

I also saw that the temple had a raised base all around. The foundations of the side rooms were a full reed, which is six large cubits.

The thickness of the outer wall for the side rooms was five cubits. The remaining space was for the side rooms that belonged to the temple.

Between the rooms, there was a gap of 20 cubits all around the temple.

The doors of the side rooms faced an open area. One door faced north, and another door faced south. The open area was five cubits wide all around.

The building in front of the separate area on the west side was 70 cubits wide. Its wall was five cubits thick all around, and its length was 90 cubits.

So he measured the temple, which was 100 cubits long. The separate area and the building, including its walls, were also 100 cubits long.

Also, the width of the front of the temple and the separate area toward the east was 100 cubits.

He measured the building's length in front of the separate area at its back, and its walkways on both sides, measuring one hundred cubits. This included the inner temple and the courtyard's porches.

There were thresholds, windows that didn't open, and walkways arranged in three levels. They were above the threshold, with wooden ceilings all around, from the ground up to the windows (which were covered).

This extended from the space above the door, into the inner house and outside, and along the entire wall all around, both inside and out, measured precisely.

It was decorated with carvings of cherubim and palm trees. A palm tree was placed between each cherub, and every cherub had two faces.

Typically, there was a human face looking towards a palm tree on one side, and a young lion's face looking towards a palm tree on the other. This pattern was used throughout the entire house.

Carvings of cherubim and palm trees were made from the ground up to above the door. This is how the temple wall was decorated.

The temple's doorposts were square. The sanctuary's appearance was just like the temple's appearance.

The altar was made of wood, three cubits high and two cubits long. Its corners, length, and sides were all made of wood. Then he told me, "This is the table that stands before Yahweh."

Both the temple and the sanctuary had two doors.

Each of these doors had two panels that swung open: two panels for one door and two panels for the other.

Carvings of cherubim and palm trees were made on the temple doors, just like those on the walls. Outside, there was a wooden threshold at the front of the porch.

There were windows that didn't open and palm trees carved on both sides of the porch. This is how the side rooms of the house and the thresholds were arranged.
