Ezekiel

Chapter 27

Wild visions of God's glory.

Yahweh's word came to me again, saying,

"Son of man, sing a sad song about Tyre;

and tell Tyre, you who live at the entry to the sea, who trade with many nations on many islands, the Lord Yahweh says: 'Tyre, you have said, "I am perfectly beautiful."

Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders have made your beauty perfect.'

They made all your planks from cypress trees from Senir. They took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.

Your oars were made from the oaks of Bashan. They made your benches from ivory inlaid in boxwood, from the islands of Kittim.

Your sail was made of fine linen with embroidered patterns from Egypt, so it could be your flag. Your awning was blue and purple fabric from the islands of Elishah.

The people of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen. Your wise men, Tyre, were among you, serving as your pilots.

The elders of Gebal and its wise men were in you, repairing your ship seams. All the ships of the sea with their sailors were in you to trade your goods.

Persia, Lud, and Put were in your army, your warriors. They hung up their shields and helmets in your city; they displayed your splendor.

The men of Arvad, along with your army, were on your walls all around, and brave men were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they perfected your beauty.

Tarshish was your merchant because of your great abundance of all kinds of wealth. They traded silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods.

Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders; they exchanged enslaved people and bronze vessels for your merchandise.

Those from the house of Togarmah traded horses, war horses, and mules for your goods.

The men of Dedan were your traders; many islands were your market. They brought you in exchange horns of ivory and ebony.

Syria was your merchant because of the abundance of your handcrafted goods. They traded emeralds, purple cloth, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and rubies for your wares.

Judah and the land of Israel were your traders. They exchanged wheat from Minnith, confections, honey, oil, and balm for your merchandise.

Damascus was your merchant due to your great number of handcrafted goods and your vast wealth, trading the wine of Helbon and white wool.

Vedan and Javan from Uzal traded yarn for your goods. Polished iron, cassia, and calamus were among your merchandise.

Dedan was your merchant, trading in precious cloths for riding.

Arabia and all the leaders of Kedar were your merchants. They traded lambs, rams, and goats with you.

The traders of Sheba and Raamah were your merchants. They traded for your goods with the best spices, all kinds of precious stones, and gold.

Haran, Canneh, Eden, the traders of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad were your merchants.

These were your merchants, trading in choice goods, in blue and embroidered fabrics, and in chests of expensive clothing, tied with cords and made of cedar, among your merchandise.

The ships of Tarshish served as your shipping fleet for your merchandise. You grew strong and became very famous in the heart of the seas.

Your rowers brought you into deep waters, but the east wind shattered you in the heart of the seas.

Your wealth, your goods, your merchandise, your sailors, your captains, your ship repairers, the dealers in your goods, and all your soldiers who are in you, with all your crew that is among you, will sink into the heart of the seas on the day of your ruin.

At the sound of your captains' cries, the surrounding areas will tremble.

All those who handled oars, the sailors, and all the captains of the sea will come down from their ships; they will stand on the land.

They will loudly wail over you, crying bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads and roll in ashes.

They will shave their heads for you and wear sackcloth. They will weep for you with bitter soul and mourn intensely.

As they lament, they will sing a funeral song for you, and mourn over you, saying, 'Who is like Tyre, like the one silenced in the middle of the sea?'

When your goods went out to sea, you supplied many nations; you made the kings of the earth rich with your great wealth and merchandise.

When you were shipwrecked by the seas, in the deep waters, your merchandise and all your crew sank with you.

All the people of the islands are shocked by what happened to you, and their kings are terrified; they look distraught.

The merchants among the nations hiss at you. You have become a terror, and you will be no more.
