The word of Yahweh came to me again, saying,
“Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Lord Yahweh says: Your heart was arrogant, and you said, “I am a god; I sit on the throne of God in the heart of the seas.” But you are a mere human, not God, even though you think of yourself as God.
Look, you consider yourself wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you.
Because of your wisdom and understanding, you have gained riches for yourself, accumulating gold and silver in your treasuries.
Your great wisdom and your trading have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud because of your riches.
Therefore, the Lord Yahweh says: Because you think your heart is like God's heart,
I will bring foreigners against you, the most fearsome of nations. They will draw their swords against your glorious wisdom and dishonor your splendor.
They will throw you down into the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas.
Will you still claim to be God before the one who kills you? No, you are a human, not God, in the hands of those who wound you.
You will die like those who are not part of God's covenant, at the hands of foreigners, because I have spoken it, says the Lord Yahweh.
Also, the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
Son of man, sing a mournful song about the king of Tyre. Tell him, 'This is what the Lord Yahweh says: You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfectly beautiful.'
You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, emerald, chrysolite, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and beryl. Your settings and ornaments were made of gold. They were prepared on the day you were created.
You were the anointed guardian cherub, and I placed you on the holy mountain of God. You walked among the fiery stones.
You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created until evil was found in you.
Because of your extensive trade, you became filled with violence, and you sinned. So I cast you out from the mountain of God as something unclean. I destroyed you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
Your heart became proud because of your beauty. You corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. I threw you to the ground and displayed you before kings so they could see you.
Because of your many sins and dishonest trading, you defiled your holy places. So I brought fire from within you, and it consumed you. I turned you to ashes on the ground in the sight of everyone who saw you.
All who knew you among the nations are horrified by you. You have become a ruin, and you will be no more.
The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
Son of man, look toward Sidon and prophesy against it.
Say, 'This is what the Lord Yahweh says: Listen, Sidon, I am against you. I will be glorified among you. They will know that I am Yahweh when I carry out judgments against her and show my holiness through her.'
For I will send plagues and bloodshed into her streets. The wounded will fall within her, with swords attacking her from every side. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.
No longer will the people of Israel be bothered by painful thorns or stinging nettles from those around them who once insulted them. Then they will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.
The Lord Yahweh says: When I gather the people of Israel from the nations where they are scattered, and when I show my holiness through them in the sight of the nations, then they will live in their own land which I gave to my servant Jacob.
They will live there securely. Yes, they will build houses and plant vineyards, and they will live safely, after I have punished all those around them who treated them badly. Then they will know that I am Yahweh their God.
