Zechariah

Chapter 3

Visions of restoration.

1He showed me Joshua, the high priest, standing before Yahweh’s angel, and Satan standing at Joshua’s right side to accuse him.

2Yahweh said to Satan, “May Yahweh rebuke you, Satan! Yes, may Yahweh, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Isn’t this man like a burning stick pulled from the fire?”

3Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel.

4The angel spoke to those standing before him, saying, “Take the filthy clothes off him.” And to Joshua, he said, “Look, I have removed your guilt from you, and I will dress you in rich clothing.”

5I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and dressed him; and Yahweh’s angel was standing nearby.

6Yahweh’s angel declared to Joshua, saying,

7“Yahweh of Armies says: ‘If you follow my ways and keep my instructions, then you will also rule my house and guard my courts, and I will give you a place among these who stand here.

8Listen now, Joshua the high priest, you and your companions who sit before you; for they are men who are a sign: for I will bring out my servant, the Branch.

9Look, the stone I have placed before Joshua; it has seven eyes: Indeed, I will engrave its inscription,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will remove the sin of that land in one single day.

10On that day,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘each man will invite his neighbor to sit under his vine and under his fig tree.’”
