Zechariah

Chapter 13

Visions of restoration.

1"On that day, a spring will be opened for David’s family and for the people of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness."

2The Lord Almighty says that on that day I will remove the names of idols from the land, and no one will remember them anymore. I will also get rid of the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness from the land.

3If anyone still prophesies after that, his father and mother who gave birth to him will tell him, ‘You must die! You are speaking lies in Yahweh’s name.’ When he prophesies, his own father and mother will stab him.

4On that day, every prophet will be ashamed of the visions he gives when he prophesies. They will no longer wear a prophet’s rough, hairy cloak to deceive people.

5Instead, he will say, ‘I am not a prophet; I am a farmer. I have worked the land since I was young.’

6Then someone will ask him, ‘What are these wounds on your chest?’ He will answer, ‘I received them in the house of my friends.’

7The Lord Almighty says, “Wake up, sword, and attack my shepherd, the man who is close to me! Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will scatter. I will turn my hand against the little ones.”

8Yahweh says, “In the entire land, two-thirds of the people will be cut off and die, but one-third will remain.

9I will bring that third into the fire; I will refine them as silver is refined and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘Yahweh is my God.’ ”
