During the night, while in bed, I looked for the one my heart loves. I looked for him, but I couldn’t find him.
I will get up now and go through the city; in the streets and in the public squares I will look for the one my heart loves. I looked for him, but I couldn’t find him.
The watchmen who patrol the city found me. I asked them, “Have you seen the one my heart loves?”
I had barely passed them when I found the one my heart loves. I held onto him and wouldn’t let him go until I brought him to my mother’s house, into the room of the one who conceived me.
I plead with you, women of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the wild deer, do not stir up or awaken love until it is ready.
Who is this coming up from the wilderness like rising columns of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the merchant’s spices?
Look, it's Solomon's carriage! Sixty brave men from Israel surround it.
They are all skilled with swords and experienced in war. Each man wears his sword at his side, ready for any fear in the night.
King Solomon built himself a carriage from the wood of Lebanon.
He made its posts of silver, its base of gold, its seat of purple fabric, and its interior was decorated with love by the daughters of Jerusalem.
Go out, women of Zion, and see King Solomon wearing the crown his mother placed on his head on his wedding day, the day his heart was filled with joy.
