When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and they were each given a trumpet.
Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer. He was given a large amount of incense to offer with the prayers of all God’s people on the golden altar in front of the throne.
The smoke from the incense, along with the prayers of God’s people, went up to God from the angel’s hand.
The angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it down to the earth. Then there were thunder, noises, lightning, and an earthquake.
The seven angels who had the seven trumpets got ready to blow them.
The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire mixed with blood rained down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.
The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a huge burning mountain was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned to blood,
and a third of the living creatures in the sea died. A third of the ships were destroyed.
The third angel blew his trumpet, and a large star, burning like a torch, fell from the sky. It landed on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
The star's name is "Wormwood." A third of the water became bitter like wormwood, and many people died from drinking the bitter water.
The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars. This caused a third of them to darken, so that a third of the day and a third of the night did not shine.
Then I looked and heard an eagle flying high overhead, shouting in a loud voice, "Woe! Woe! Woe to everyone living on the earth because of the remaining trumpet blasts of the three angels who are yet to sound!"
