Chapter 90

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

A Prayer by Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our home through all generations.

Before the mountains were born, before you created the earth and the world, you are God from everlasting to everlasting.

You turn people back to dust, saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.”

For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday, once it's gone, or like a few hours in the night.

You sweep people away while they sleep; in the morning, they sprout like new grass.

In the morning it grows and blossoms, but by evening it withers and dries up.

Indeed, we are consumed by your anger and troubled by your wrath.

You have placed our sins before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

All our days pass away under your wrath; we conclude our years with a sigh.

Our lifespan is seventy years, or if we are strong, eighty years; yet their pride is only trouble and sorrow, for life passes quickly, and we fly away.

Who truly understands the power of your anger? Your wrath is as great as the reverence you deserve.

Teach us to number our days, that we may develop a wise heart.

Turn back, Yahweh! How much longer will this last? Show compassion to your servants!

Satisfy us in the morning with your faithful love, so we can sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Make us glad for as many days as you have caused us suffering, and for as many years as we have experienced trouble.

Let your work be visible to your servants; let your glory be seen by their children.

May the favor of the Lord our God be on us. Make the work of our hands successful for us; yes, make the work of our hands successful.
