Psalms

Chapter 9

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

For the director of music. To the tune of “The Death of the Son.” A Psalm of David. I will thank Yahweh with all my heart. I will tell about all the amazing things you have done.

I will be glad and celebrate in you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.

When my enemies turn back, they stumble and die in your presence.

For you have supported my just cause. You sit on your throne, judging fairly.

You have criticized nations, destroyed the wicked, and erased their names forever and ever.

The enemy is completely ruined forever. Even the memory of the cities you demolished has vanished.

But Yahweh rules forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.

He will judge the world fairly. He will deliver justice to the people with integrity.

Yahweh will be a safe place for the oppressed; a safe place in times of trouble.

Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Yahweh, have never abandoned those who seek you.

Sing praises to Yahweh, who lives in Zion, and tell the people what he has done.

For the one who avenges bloodshed remembers them. He does not forget the cries of those who suffer.

Have mercy on me, Yahweh. See how my enemies make me suffer. Lift me up from the gates of death,

so that I may declare all your praise. In the gates of Daughter Zion, I will celebrate your salvation.

The nations have fallen into the pit they dug. Their own feet are caught in the net they hid.

Yahweh has revealed himself; he has carried out judgment. The wicked are trapped by their own actions. (Pause and think.)

The wicked will return to the grave, even all the nations that forget God.

The needy will not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor will not die forever.

Rise up, Yahweh! Don’t let people win. Let the nations be judged in your presence.

Strike them with fear, Yahweh. Let the nations know that they are only human. (Selah)
