Chapter 80

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

For the worship leader. To the tune of "The Lilies of the Covenant." A Psalm by Asaph. Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock, you who sit enthroned above the Cherubim, shine brightly!

Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, display your strength! Come and rescue us!

Restore us, God. Show us your favor, and we will be saved.

Yahweh, God of Armies, how long will you be angry when your people pray?

You have fed them with tears as their food, and given them many tears to drink.

You make us a cause of conflict for our neighbors. Our enemies laugh among themselves.

Restore us, God of Armies. Show us your favor, and we will be saved.

You brought a vine out of Egypt. You drove out other nations and planted it.

You cleared the ground for it. It took deep root and filled the land.

The mountains were covered by its shade. Its branches were like God's mighty cedars.

It spread its branches to the sea and its shoots to the River.

Why have you broken down its walls, so that everyone who passes by can pick its fruit?

Wild boars from the forest destroy it. Wild animals from the fields feed on it.

Please come back, God of Armies. Look down from heaven, and see, and take care of this vine.

This is the vine your right hand planted, the branch you made strong for yourself.

It has been burned with fire. It has been cut down. They die when you scold them.

Let your power be with the man at your right hand, with the son of man you made strong for yourself.

Then we will not turn away from you. Give us new life, and we will worship you.

Bring us back, Yahweh God of Armies. Show us your favor, and we will be saved.
