Chapter 71

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

Yahweh, I find safety in you. Never let me be put to shame.

In your righteousness, rescue me and set me free. Listen to me and save me.

Be my rock of safety, a place I can always go. Command that I be saved, for you are my rock and my strong defense.

My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the power of the unjust and cruel person.

For you are my hope, Lord Yahweh; you have been my trust since I was young.

I have depended on you since birth. You are the one who brought me out of my mother’s womb. I will always praise you.

Many people are amazed by me, but you are my strong refuge.

My mouth will be filled with your praise, honoring you all day long.

Don’t abandon me in my old age. Don’t desert me when my strength is gone.

For my enemies talk about me. Those who want to harm me plot together,

saying, “God has abandoned him. Chase and catch him, for no one will rescue him.”

God, don’t be far from me. My God, hurry to help me.

Let those who accuse me be put to shame and destroyed. Let them be covered with disgrace and ridicule, those who want to hurt me.

But I will always be hopeful, and I will praise you more and more.

My mouth will tell about your fairness and your salvation all day, even though I don’t know its full extent.

I will come with the mighty acts of the Lord Yahweh. I will speak about your righteousness, yours alone.

God, you have taught me since I was young. Until now, I have spoken of your amazing works.

Yes, even when I am old and have gray hair, God, don’t abandon me, until I have told the next generation about your strength, and everyone to come about your power.

Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens; you have done great things. God, who is like you?

You, who have shown us many bitter troubles, you will restore my life. You will bring us up again from the depths of the earth.

Increase my honor and comfort me once more.

I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God. I sing praises to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel.

My lips will shout for joy! My soul, which you have rescued, sings praises to you!

My tongue will also talk about your righteousness all day long, for those who wanted to harm me are disappointed and put to shame.
