Chapter 42

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

For the worship leader. A meditative song by the sons of Korah. Just as a deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, God.

My soul is thirsty for God, for the living God. When can I go and appear before God?

My tears have been my only food day and night, while people constantly ask me, "Where is your God?"

I remember these things and pour out my heart, how I used to go with the crowd and lead them to God’s house, with joyful shouts and praise, a crowd celebrating a holy day.

Why are you so sad, my soul? Why are you so troubled within me? Put your hope in God! For I will still praise him for the saving help of his presence.

My God, my soul is sad within me. So I remember you from the land of the Jordan, the peaks of Hermon, from Mizar hill.

Deep water calls to deep water with the roar of your waterfalls. All your waves and your floods have swept over me.

Yahweh will show his faithful love during the day. At night, his song will be with me: a prayer to the God of my life.

I will ask God, my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go around in mourning because of the enemy's oppression?"

My enemies insult me, like a sword piercing my bones, while they constantly ask me, "Where is your God?"

Why are you so sad, my soul? Why are you so troubled within me? Put your hope in God! For I will still praise him, the help and salvation of my face, and my God.
