A Prayer by David. Hear, Yahweh, my honest request; listen to my prayer, which comes from sincere lips.
Let your judgment of me come from you. Let your eyes see what is fair.
You have tested my heart. You have visited me at night. You have examined me, and found nothing wrong. I have decided that my mouth will not say anything sinful.
Regarding what people do, by the teaching of your words, I have avoided the ways of violent people.
My steps have stayed firm on your paths. My feet have not slipped.
I have called on you, because you will answer me, God. Listen to me. Hear what I have to say.
Show your amazing loyal love, you who save those who seek protection from their enemies by your power.
Guard me as you would the apple of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings,
away from the wicked who oppress me, my deadly enemies who surround me.
They have shut their hearts to pity. With their mouths, they speak proudly.
They have now surrounded us wherever we go. They are determined to throw us down to the ground.
He is like a lion eager for its prey, like a young lion hiding in secret places.
Rise up, Yahweh, confront him. Throw him down. Rescue me from the wicked with your sword;
rescue me from ordinary people by your hand, Yahweh, from people of this world whose only reward is in this life. You provide plenty for your favored ones. Your children have abundance, and they leave wealth for their children.
As for me, I will see your face in righteousness. I will be satisfied when I wake up and see your form.
