Chapter 107

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

Thank Yahweh, because he is good; his faithful love lasts forever.

Let those Yahweh has rescued say so, those he has saved from the power of their enemy,

and gathered from faraway lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

They wandered in the desert on a desolate road; they couldn't find a city to live in.

They were hungry and thirsty, and they felt faint.

Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he rescued them from their difficult situations.

He led them on a straight path so they could go to a city to live in.

Let them praise Yahweh for his faithful love and for the amazing things he does for people!

Because he satisfies the thirsty soul and fills the hungry soul with good things.

Some people sat in darkness and the shadow of death, trapped in misery and iron chains,

because they defied God's words and rejected the advice of the Most High.

So he humbled them with hard labor. They fell, and no one helped them.

Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

He led them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their chains.

They should praise Yahweh for his faithful love, and for his wonderful acts for humanity!

For he broke down bronze gates and cut through iron bars.

Fools suffered because of their rebellious ways and their wrongdoing.

They lost all desire for food and came close to death.

Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

He sent his word and healed them, and rescued them from their graves.

They should praise Yahweh for his faithful love, and for his wonderful acts for humanity!

Let them offer sacrifices of thanks and tell about his works with joyful singing.

Those who travel the sea in ships, who do business on the great waters,

They see Yahweh's works, and his wonders in the deep.

For he commands, and a stormy wind rises, stirring up the waves.

They go up to the sky and down to the depths; their courage melts away in the face of danger.

They stumble and stagger like drunkards, completely confused.

Then they cry out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distress.

He calms the storm, and the waves become still.

They are glad when it is calm, and he guides them to their desired port.

They should praise Yahweh for his faithful love, and for his wonderful acts for humanity!

Let the people praise him in their public meetings, and honor him where the elders gather.

He turns rivers into deserts and springs of water into dry ground.

He turns fertile land into salty wasteland because of the wickedness of its residents.

Then he turns a desert into a pool of water, and dry land into springs.

He settles the hungry there so they can build a city to live in.

They sow fields, plant vineyards, and harvest abundant crops.

He blesses them, and they multiply greatly. He doesn't allow their livestock to decrease.

But then they may be reduced in number and brought low by oppression, trouble, and sorrow.

He pours scorn on princes and makes them wander in a barren, trackless desert.

Yet he lifts the needy out of their suffering and makes their families grow like a flock of sheep.

Righteous people will see this and be glad, and all the wicked will be silenced.

Anyone who is wise will pay attention to these things and consider Yahweh's faithful love.
