Chapter 104

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

Praise Yahweh, my soul! Yahweh, my God, you are incredibly great. You are dressed in honor and splendor.

He covers himself with light as if it were a robe. He stretches out the heavens like a tent.

He builds his upper rooms on the waters. He uses the clouds as his chariot. He travels on the wings of the wind.

He makes the winds his messengers, and flames of fire his servants.

He set the earth on its foundations, so it would never be moved.

You covered it with the deep waters like a blanket. The waters stood above the mountains.

When you warned them, they ran away. At the sound of your thunder, they hurried off.

The mountains rose, the valleys sank, to the places you had set for them.

You set a boundary they cannot cross, so they will not cover the earth again.

He sends springs into the valleys, and they flow among the mountains.

They provide water for all the wild animals; the wild donkeys quench their thirst there.

The birds of the sky make their nests by the springs and sing among the branches.

He waters the mountains from his home above. The earth is full of the good things you have made.

He makes grass grow for livestock and plants for people to tend, so they can get food from the earth:

wine that makes people happy, olive oil that makes their faces glow, and bread that gives them strength.

Yahweh’s trees are well-watered, especially the cedars of Lebanon, which he planted.

There the birds build their nests. The stork makes its home in the cypress trees.

The high mountains are for the wild goats, and the rocks are a safe place for the rock badgers.

He made the moon to mark the seasons. The sun knows when to set.

You bring on darkness, and it becomes night, when all the wild animals of the forest come out.

The young lions roar for their prey, and demand their food from God.

When the sun rises, they sneak away and lie down in their dens.

Then people go out to do their work, laboring until evening.

Yahweh, how many works you have done! You made them all with wisdom. The earth is full of your rich blessings.

There is the sea, vast and wide, filled with countless living creatures, both small and large.

Ships travel there, and Leviathan, whom you created to play in it.

All these creatures wait for you to give them their food at the proper time.

When you give to them, they gather it. When you open your hand, they are filled with good things.

When you turn away from them, they are terrified. When you take away their breath, they die and return to dust.

When you send out your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.

May Yahweh's glory last forever. May Yahweh find joy in his works.

The earth trembles when he looks at it. The mountains smoke when he touches them.

I will sing to Yahweh as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God throughout my entire life.

May my thoughts please him. I will be joyful in Yahweh.

May sinners disappear from the earth. May the wicked no longer exist. My soul, bless Yahweh! Praise Yah!
