Proverbs

Chapter 10

Wisdom for everyday life.

These are the proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes his father happy, but a foolish son brings sadness to his mother.

Ill-gotten gains are worthless, but doing what is right saves you from death.

Yahweh will not let righteous people go hungry, but he rejects the desires of the wicked.

A lazy hand leads to poverty, but a diligent hand brings wealth.

A son who gathers during summer is wise, but a son who sleeps during harvest time brings shame.

Blessings are upon the head of the righteous, but violence overtakes the mouths of the wicked.

The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.

Those who are wise in their heart accept instructions, but a foolish person who talks too much will fail.

Whoever lives without fault lives securely, but whoever takes a crooked path will be discovered.

Someone who winks mischievously causes pain, but a foolish person who talks too much will fail.

The words of good people are a source of life, but violence covers the mouths of evil people.

Hatred causes conflict, but love overlooks all offenses.

Wisdom is on the lips of those who understand, but a beating awaits the back of anyone who lacks sense.

Wise people store up knowledge, but the talk of fools leads to ruin.

A rich person’s wealth is like a strong city, but the poverty of the poor is their ruin.

The work of good people leads to life, but the income of evil people leads to sin.

Anyone who listens to correction is on the path to life, but whoever ignores warnings leads others astray.

Whoever hides hatred has lying lips; whoever spreads slander is a fool.

When there are many words, there is also much disobedience, but keeping quiet is a sign of wisdom.

The words of good people are like fine silver; the hearts of evil people are worth very little.

The words of good people nourish many, but fools die because they lack understanding.

Yahweh’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

Doing evil is a fool’s pleasure, but wisdom is a pleasure for a person of understanding.

What evil people fear will happen to them, but what good people desire will be granted.

When a storm passes, evil people are gone, but good people stand firm forever.

Just as vinegar is to teeth and smoke is to eyes, so is a lazy person to those who send them.

Respecting Yahweh makes one’s life longer, but the years of evil people will be cut short.

Good people can look forward to a joyful future, but evil people's hopes will be crushed.

Yahweh protects those who live honorably, but he destroys those who do evil.

Those who do right will always be secure, but wicked people will not remain in the land.

Good people speak wisely, but those who say twisted things will be silenced.

Good people know the right things to say, but wicked people speak perversely.
