Chapter 7

Israel's long journey through the desert.

On the day Moses finished setting up the Holy Tent, he anointed and set it apart, along with all its furnishings, and the altar with all its utensils. He anointed and set them all apart.

The leaders of Israel, who were the heads of their families and the tribal leaders—the same ones who were in charge of the census—

brought their offerings to Yahweh: six covered wagons and twelve oxen. There was one wagon for every two leaders, and one ox for each leader. They presented these before the Holy Tent.

Yahweh said to Moses,

“Accept these from them so they can be used for the service of the Meeting Tent. Give them to the Levites, with each man receiving what he needs for his specific duties.”

So Moses took the wagons and oxen and gave them to the Levites.

He gave two wagons and four oxen to the descendants of Gershon, according to their duties.

He gave four wagons and eight oxen to the descendants of Merari, according to their duties, under the supervision of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest.
