Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
“Speak to Aaron, his sons, and all the people of Israel, and tell them: ‘This is what Yahweh has commanded:
Any man from the house of Israel who kills a bull, a lamb, or a goat, whether inside the camp or outside the camp,
and does not bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to offer it as an offering to Yahweh before Yahweh’s dwelling place — that man will be considered guilty of shedding blood. He has shed blood, and that man will be cut off from his people.
This is so that the people of Israel will bring their sacrifices, which they used to offer in the open field, to Yahweh at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, to the priest, and offer them as fellowship offerings to Yahweh.
The priest will sprinkle the blood on Yahweh’s altar at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and burn the fat as a pleasing aroma to Yahweh.
They must no longer offer their sacrifices to goat idols, which they have been unfaithful to. This will be a law for them forever throughout their generations.’
“Also tell them, ‘Any man from the house of Israel or any foreigner living among them who offers a burnt offering or a sacrifice,
and does not bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to sacrifice it to Yahweh — that man will be cut off from his people.
‘Any man from the house of Israel or any foreigner living among them who eats any kind of blood—I will turn against that person who eats blood and cut him off from his people.
For the life of a living thing is in its blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to purify yourselves; it is the blood that purifies because of the life within it.
Because of this, I have told the people of Israel, “No person among you may eat blood, nor may any foreigner living among you eat blood.”
‘Any man from the people of Israel or any foreigner living among them who hunts and catches an animal or bird that may be eaten — he must pour out its blood and cover it with earth.
For the life of all living things is in its blood. That is why I told the people of Israel, “You must not eat the blood of any living thing, because the life of all living things is its blood. Anyone who eats it will be cut off.”
Any person, whether a native-born Israelite or a foreigner, who eats an animal that died naturally or was killed by other animals, must wash their clothes and bathe in water. They will be unclean until evening, then they will be clean.
But if they do not wash their clothes or bathe themselves, they will be held responsible for their wrongdoing.
