1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
2Tell the people of Israel: If a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a male child, she will be unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period.
3On the eighth day, the flesh of the baby's foreskin must be circumcised.
4She must remain in the blood of purification for thirty-three days. She must not touch anything holy or come into the sanctuary until her days of purification are completed.
5But if she gives birth to a girl, she will be unclean for two weeks, as she is during her period; and she must remain in the blood of purification for sixty-six days.
6"When her purification period is over, whether for a son or a daughter, she must bring to the priest at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting a year-old lamb for an offering burned whole, and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering.
7He will offer it before Yahweh and make atonement for her; then she will be clean from her bleeding. This is the law for a woman who gives birth, whether to a boy or a girl.
8If she cannot afford a lamb, she must take two turtledoves or two young pigeons. One will be for a burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering. The priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.
