Chapter 12

God gives His people a home.

1Here is a list of the kings of the land whom the people of Israel defeated and whose land they took control of on the east side of the Jordan River, from the Arnon Valley to Mount Hermon, and all the eastern Arabah:

2Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon and ruled from Aroer (which is on the edge of the Arnon Valley) through the middle of the valley and half of Gilead, all the way to the Jabbok River, which was the border of the Ammonite people.

3His territory also included the Arabah eastward to the Sea of Chinneroth and the Sea of the Arabah (also known as the Salt Sea), following the road to Beth Jeshimoth, and southward below the slopes of Pisgah.

4Also, Og, king of Bashan, one of the last of the Rephaim, who lived in Ashtaroth and Edrei.

5He ruled over Mount Hermon, Salecah, and all of Bashan, up to the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and also half of Gilead, bordering Sihon king of Heshbon's territory.

6Moses, the servant of Yahweh, and the people of Israel defeated these kings. Moses, the servant of Yahweh, gave their land as a possession to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half of the tribe of Manasseh.
