John

Chapter 17

Jesus, God in human form.

Jesus said these things. Then, looking up to heaven, he said, 'Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that your Son may also glorify you;

just as you gave him authority over all humanity, he will give eternal life to all those you have given him.

This is what eternal life means: to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

I brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.

And now, Father, give me the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

I have shown who you are to the people you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me. And they have obeyed your teaching.

Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you,

I have given them the message you gave me. They accepted it and knew for certain that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.

I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, because they are yours.

Everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine, and my glory is seen in them.

I am no longer in the world, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them with your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one, just as we are one.

While I was with them in the world, I protected them with your name, the name you gave me. I kept watch over them, and not one of them was lost, except the one destined for destruction, so that the Scripture would come true.

But now I am coming to you, and I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have my complete joy within themselves.

I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.

I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but to protect them from the evil one.

They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.

Make them pure and holy through your truth; your word is truth.

Just as you sent me into the world, I have also sent them into the world.

For their sake, I make myself holy, so that they too may be truly holy.

I am praying not only for these followers but also for those who will believe in me because of their message.

I pray that they will all be one, Father. Just as you are in me and I am in you, I want them to be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me.

I have given them the glory that you gave me, so that they may be one, just as we are one.

I am in them and you are in me. I pray that they will be completely united so the world will know that you sent me and loved them, just as you loved me.

Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so they may see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the world was made.

Righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you. And these disciples have known that you sent me.

I have made your name known to them, and I will continue to make it known, so that the love you have for me may be in them, and I myself may be in them.
