Job

Chapter 26

When good people suffer.

Then Job replied,

“How you have helped someone without strength! How you have saved an arm with no power!

How you have given advice to someone without wisdom, and shared plenty of sound knowledge!

Who were you talking to? Whose spirit came out of you?

The spirits of the dead tremble, those beneath the waters and everything that lives in them.

The grave is exposed before God, and the place of destruction has no covering.

He stretches out the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.

He holds the water in his thick clouds, and the clouds don't burst under the weight.

He hides the face of his throne and spreads his cloud over it.

He has drawn a boundary on the surface of the waters, reaching to the edges of light and darkness.

The foundations of heaven shake and are amazed at his command.

He calms the sea with his power, and with his understanding, he strikes down the monster Rahab.

By his Spirit, the heavens are beautiful. His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.

Look, these are just the edges of his work. We only hear a tiny whisper of him! But who can understand the thunder of his power?”
