Job

Chapter 18

When good people suffer.

Then Bildad the Shuhite replied,

"How long will you keep talking? Think about it, and then we can speak.

Why are we considered like animals, as if we are worthless in your eyes?

You who tear yourself apart in anger—will the earth be deserted for your sake? Or will a rock be moved from its place?

Indeed, the light of evil people will be extinguished; the spark of their fire will not shine.

The light in their tent will become dark. Their lamp above them will be put out.

Their strong strides will be shortened. Their own advice will bring them down.

For their own feet have led them into a net, and they stumble into its trap.

A snare will catch them by the heel. A trap will seize them.

A noose is hidden for them on the ground, a trap for them on the path.

Fears will terrify them from every side and chase them relentlessly.

Their strength will be depleted. Disaster will be right beside them.

His body parts will be eaten away. The ultimate death will consume his limbs.

He will be torn from the safety of his home. He will be brought before the king of terrors.

Strangers will live in his tent. Sulfur will be scattered over his home.

His roots will dry up below. His branches above will be cut off.

People will forget him completely. No one will remember his name in public.

He will be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

He will have no son or grandson among his people, nor any family left where he lived.

Those who come after will be shocked by his fate, just as those who lived before were terrified.

Indeed, such are the homes of the wicked. This is the place for anyone who does not know God.”
