Every high priest is chosen from among men and appointed to represent them in matters related to God, so that he may offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
He can deal gently with people who are ignorant and going astray because he himself is subject to weakness.
Because of this, he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, just as he does for the sins of the people.
No one takes this honor upon himself; instead, he is called by God, just as Aaron was.
In the same way, Christ did not make himself a high priest, but God did, when he said to him, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father."
And in another place he says, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
During his time on earth, Jesus offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his devotion.
Even though he was God’s Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered.
After he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for everyone who obeys him,
and he was designated by God as a high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you have become slow to understand.
By now you should be teachers, but you need someone to teach you the basic truths of God’s messages again. You need milk, not solid food.
Anyone who lives on baby food is not experienced in understanding what is right, because they are still an infant.
But solid food is for mature people, who through practice have trained themselves to know the difference between good and evil.
