This is the family history of Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.
Japheth’s sons were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
Gomer’s sons were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
Javan’s sons were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
From these families came the people who settled the coastal regions, each group in their own land, with their own language, family, and nation.
Ham’s sons were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
Cush’s sons were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. Raamah’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
Cush was the father of Nimrod, who began to be a powerful man on earth.
He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. That is why people say, “like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before Yahweh.”
His kingdom started with Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh in the land of Shinar.
From that land, he went into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, and Calah,
as well as Resen, which is between Nineveh and the great city Calah.
Mizraim was the father of the Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,
the Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim.
Canaan was the father of Sidon (his oldest son) and Heth,
the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Later, the Canaanite families spread out.
The Canaanite border stretched from Sidon towards Gerar, all the way to Gaza; and towards Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, all the way to Lasha.
These are the descendants of Ham, listed by their families, languages, lands, and nations.
Shem, who was Japheth’s older brother and the ancestor of all the descendants of Eber, also had sons.
Shem’s sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.
Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
Arpachshad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg because in his time the earth was divided. His brother’s name was Joktan.
Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, and Jerah.
He was also the father of Hadoram, Uzal, and Diklah.
And he was the father of Obal, Abimael, and Sheba.
Finally, he was the father of Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's sons.
They lived in an area that stretched from Mesha all the way to Sephar, a mountain in the east.
These were the descendants of Shem, listed by their families, languages, lands, and nations.
These are the families of Noah's sons, listed by their descendants and nations. The different nations on earth developed from them after the great flood.
