Ezekiel

Chapter 39

Wild visions of God's glory.

You, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, 'This is what the Lord Yahweh says: Look, I am against you, Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal.'

I will turn you around, lead you on, and bring you up from the far reaches of the north, and I will bring you to the mountains of Israel.

I will knock your bow from your left hand and make your arrows fall from your right hand.

You will fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your armies and the nations with you. I will give you to all kinds of hungry birds and wild animals to be eaten.

You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken it, says the Lord Yahweh.

I will send fire on Magog and on those who live securely in the coastal lands; then they will know that I am Yahweh.

I will make my holy name known among my people Israel; I will no longer allow my holy name to be dishonored. And the nations will know that I am Yahweh, the Holy One in Israel.

Look, it is coming, and it will happen, says the Lord Yahweh. This is the day I have spoken about.

Those who live in the cities of Israel will go out and make fires with the weapons, burning the shields, bucklers, bows, arrows, war clubs, and spears. They will use them for fuel for seven years.

So they will not need to gather wood from the field or cut down trees from the forests, because they will make fires from the weapons. They will plunder those who plundered them and rob those who robbed them, says the Lord Yahweh.

On that day, I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, the valley of the travelers, east of the sea. It will block those who pass through. There they will bury Gog and all his crowd, and they will call it the Valley of Hamon Gog.

The people of Israel will spend seven months burying them in order to cleanse the land.

All the people of the land will bury them. This will bring them honor on the day I show my greatness, says the Lord Yahweh.

They will set aside people for this job, who will constantly travel through the land. Along with others who are passing through, these people will bury those who are still on the surface of the land to cleanse it. They will continue searching after seven months.

As people travel through the land, if anyone sees a human bone, they must place a marker next to it until the burial teams have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog.

A city will also be named Hamonah. In this way, they will cleanse the land.

You, son of man, this is what the Lord Yahweh says: Speak to all kinds of birds and all the wild animals. Gather yourselves and come; assemble from every side to my sacrifice that I am preparing for you—a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. You will eat meat and drink blood.

You will eat the flesh of powerful men and drink the blood of the earth's rulers—of rams, lambs, goats, and all the fat bulls of Bashan.

You will eat fat until you are full and drink blood until you are drunk from my sacrifice that I have prepared for you.

At my table, you will be filled with horses and chariots, with mighty men and all men of war, says the Lord Yahweh.

I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment I have carried out and the power I have used against them.

So the people of Israel will know that I am Yahweh their God, from that day forward.

The nations will know that the people of Israel were taken captive because of their sin; because they betrayed me, I turned away from them. So I handed them over to their enemies, and they all died by the sword.

I treated them according to their impurities and their rebellions; I turned away from them.

Therefore, the Lord Yahweh says: Now I will bring Jacob's captives back and have mercy on all the people of Israel; and I will show my passionate devotion for my holy name.

They will accept their shame and all the ways they betrayed me, when they live securely in their land, and no one makes them afraid.

This will happen when I bring them back from other nations and gather them from the lands of their enemies. I will show my holiness through them in the sight of many nations.

They will know that I am Yahweh their God. I sent them into captivity among the nations, but then I gathered them back to their own land. I will not leave any of them there anymore.

Nor will I hide my face from them anymore, because I have poured out my Spirit on the people of Israel, says the Lord Yahweh.
