Exodus

Chapter 29

God rescues His people from slavery.

“This is how you are to make them holy so they can serve me as priests: Take one young bull and two rams that have no defects.

Also take unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers brushed with oil; make these from fine wheat flour.

You are to put all of these into one basket and bring them in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams.

Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.

You are to take the garments and put on Aaron the robe, the Ephod's outer robe, the Ephod itself, and the chest piece. Fasten the skillfully woven band of the Ephod around him.

Then you will place the turban on his head and put the holy crown on the turban.

Next, you are to take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him.

Bring his sons and put robes on them.

You will dress them with belts—Aaron and his sons—and tie headbands on them. They will have the priesthood as a permanent rule, and you will ordain Aaron and his sons.

“You must bring the bull in front of the Tent of Meeting, and Aaron and his sons are to place their hands on the bull’s head.

You are to kill the bull in front of Yahweh, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

Take some of the bull's blood and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger. Pour out all the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.

You are to take all the fat that covers the internal organs, the fatty lobe of the liver, the two kidneys, and the fat around them, and burn them on the altar.

But you must burn the bull's meat, its skin, and its waste outside the camp. This is an offering for sin.

You must also take the one ram; Aaron and his sons are to place their hands on the ram's head.

You must kill the ram, take its blood, and splash it around on the altar.

You must cut the ram into pieces, wash its internal organs and its legs, and put them with its pieces and with its head.

You must burn the entire ram on the altar. This is a burnt offering to Yahweh; it is a pleasing smell, an offering made by fire to Yahweh.

You must take the other ram; Aaron and his sons are to place their hands on the ram's head.

Then you must kill the ram, take some of its blood, and put it on the tip of Aaron's right ear, on the tip of his sons' right ears, on the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their right foot. Then splash the blood around on the altar.

You must take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and splash it on Aaron, on his clothes, on his sons, and on his sons' clothes with him. This will make him holy, along with his clothes, his sons, and his sons' clothes with him.

You must also take some of the ram's fat: the fat tail, the fat covering the internal organs, the covering of the liver, the two kidneys, the fat on them, and the right thigh (because this is a ram for ordination).

Also take one loaf of bread, one cake of oiled bread, and one flatbread from the basket of unleavened bread that is before Yahweh.

You are to put all of these in Aaron's hands and in his sons' hands and wave them as a wave offering before Yahweh.

You must take them from their hands and burn them on the altar on top of the burnt offering. This is a pleasing smell before Yahweh; it is an offering made by fire to Yahweh.

You must take the breast of Aaron's ram of ordination and wave it as a wave offering before Yahweh. This will be your portion.

You must set apart the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the wave offering that are waved and lifted up from the ram of ordination—both what is for Aaron and what is for his sons.

And this will be a lasting portion for Aaron and his sons from the people of Israel, because it is a wave offering. It will be a wave offering from the people of Israel of the sacrifices of their peace offerings, specifically their wave offering to Yahweh.

Aaron's holy garments will be for his sons after him, so they can be anointed and ordained in them.

The son who serves as priest in his place must wear them for seven days when he comes into the Tent of Meeting to serve in the holy place.

You must take the ram of ordination and boil its meat in a holy place.

Aaron and his sons will eat the ram's meat and the bread from the basket at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

They will eat these things, which were used to make atonement, to ordain and make them holy. But an outsider must not eat from it, because these things are holy.

If any of the meat from the ordination or any of the bread remains until morning, you must burn the rest with fire. It must not be eaten, because it is holy.

You must do this for Aaron and his sons, just as I have commanded you. You must set them apart for seven days.

Each day you must offer a bull as a sin offering to make atonement. You must cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it, and then anoint it to make it holy.

You will make atonement for the altar and make it holy for seven days. The altar will become extremely holy; anything that touches it will become holy.

This is what you are to offer on the altar: two lambs, one year old, every day continually.

You are to offer one lamb in the morning and the other lamb in the evening.

With the first lamb, offer one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of beaten oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering.

You will offer the other lamb in the evening, along with the same grain offering and drink offering as in the morning. This will be a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to Yahweh.

This will be a continuous burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting before Yahweh, where I will meet with you and speak to you.

There I will meet with the people of Israel, and I will make that place holy with my glory.

I will make the Meeting Tent and the altar holy. I will also make Aaron and his sons holy so they can serve me as priests.

I will live among the people of Israel and be their God.

They will know that I am Yahweh their God, who brought them out of Egypt so I could live among them. I am Yahweh their God.
