You must not spread false rumors. Do not join with wicked people to give a malicious testimony.
You must not follow a crowd to do evil. When you testify in court, do not side with the majority if it means twisting justice.
You must not show favoritism to a poor person in their lawsuit.
If you find your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, you must be sure to return it to them.
If you see the donkey of someone who hates you collapsed under its load, do not leave it there; you must surely help them with it.
You must not deny justice to your poor people in their legal cases.
Stay away from false accusations, and don’t kill innocent and righteous people, because I will not declare guilty people innocent.
Do not accept bribes, because bribes blind those who can see and twist the words of honest people.
Do not mistreat a foreigner, because you know what it’s like to be a foreigner, since you yourselves were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
For six years you are to plant your land and harvest its crops,
but during the seventh year, you must let it rest and lie unplanted. This is so the poor among your people can eat from it, and whatever they leave, the wild animals can eat. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.
You are to work for six days, but on the seventh day you must rest. This is so your ox and your donkey can rest, and your servant’s child and the foreigner can be refreshed.
Be careful to do everything I have told you. Do not worship other gods or even speak their names.
You must celebrate a festival for me three times a year.
You must celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib (because that was when you left Egypt). No one should appear before me empty-handed.
You must also celebrate the Festival of Harvest, which is when you bring the first crops from what you have planted in the field. And celebrate the Festival of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather your harvest from the field.
Three times a year, all your men must appear before the Lord Yahweh.
Do not offer the blood of my sacrifice with bread made with yeast. And do not leave the fat from my festival sacrifices out overnight until morning.
You must bring the very first of your harvest to the house of Yahweh your God. Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
Look, I am sending an angel ahead of you to protect you on your journey and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not make him angry, because he will not forgive your wrong actions, for my authority is in him.
But if you truly listen to him and do everything I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and oppose those who oppose you.
Indeed, my angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will destroy them.
You must not bow down to their gods, serve them, or follow their practices. Instead, you must completely overturn and smash their sacred stones.
You must serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your food and water, and I will remove sickness from among you.
No one in your land will miscarry or be unable to have children. I will let you live out your full lifespan.
I will send my fear ahead of you. I will confuse all the people you come into contact with, and I will make all your enemies run away from you.
I will send hornets ahead of you, which will drive out the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites before you.
I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become empty, and the wild animals would become too numerous for you.
I will push them out little by little until your population has grown enough to take possession of the land.
I will set your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will hand over the people living in the land to you, and you will drive them out.
You must not make any treaties with them or their gods.
They must not live in your land, otherwise they will make you sin against me. If you worship their gods, it will definitely be a trap for you.”
