Deuteronomy

Chapter 30

Moses' final words before the Promised Land.

It will happen that when all these things—the blessings and the curses that I have presented to you—come upon you, and you remember them among all the nations where Yahweh your God has driven you,

and you return to Yahweh your God and obey his voice in everything I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and all your soul,

then Yahweh your God will restore your fortunes, have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where Yahweh your God has scattered you.

Even if your banished people are at the farthest reaches of the heavens, Yahweh your God will gather you from there and bring you back.

Yahweh your God will bring you into the land that your ancestors possessed, and you will possess it. He will do good to you and make you more numerous than your ancestors.

Yahweh your God will change your heart and the hearts of your descendants, so that you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and all your soul, in order that you may live.

Yahweh your God will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you and persecuted you.

You must return and obey Yahweh, doing all the commands I'm giving you today.

Yahweh your God will make you successful in everything you do: in the children you have, in the offspring of your livestock, and in the produce of your land, for your good. Yahweh will again be happy with you and do you good, just as he was happy with your ancestors,

if you obey Yahweh your God by keeping his commands and rules written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to Yahweh your God with all your heart and all your soul.

This command I'm giving you today is not too hard for you, and it's not out of reach.

It's not in heaven, so you don't have to ask, 'Who will go up to heaven for us to get it, so we can hear it and obey it?'

Nor is it beyond the sea, so you don't have to ask, 'Who will cross the sea for us to get it, so we can hear it and obey it?'

In fact, the message is very close to you; it's in your mouth and in your heart, so you can obey it.

Look, today I have offered you life and prosperity, or death and disaster.

For today I command you to love Yahweh your God, to live according to his ways, and to keep his commands, rules, and laws so that you may live and increase, and so that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land you are about to enter and take possession of.

But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are led astray to worship and serve other gods,

then I declare to you today that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

Today I call heaven and earth to witness against you that I have offered you life and death, blessings and curses. Therefore, choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

Choose to love Yahweh your God, to obey him, and to remain loyal to him, for he is your life and he will give you many years in the land he promised to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
