Therefore, I encourage the elders among you, as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings, and someone who will share in the glory that will be revealed.
Be shepherds of God's flock among you. Watch over them not because you have to, but because you want to, as God desires. Don't do it for dishonest gain, but willingly.
Don't act like you are rulers over those entrusted to your care, but be examples for the flock to follow.
When the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of glory that will never fade away.
In the same way, you who are younger, respect those who are older. All of you, dress yourselves in humility toward one another, because “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
So humble yourselves under God's powerful hand, so that he may lift you up at the proper time.
Give all your worries to him, because he cares for you.
Be clear-minded and control yourselves. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, walking around and looking for someone to devour.
Resist him, standing firm in your faith, because you know that other believers in the world are enduring the same kinds of suffering.
And after you have suffered a little while, God, who is full of grace and called you to share in his eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and support you.
To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
I have written this short letter to you through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. In this grace you stand firm.
The church in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings. So does Mark, my son.
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
