Corinthians

Chapter 5

Living as the church together.

It is widely reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even non-believers don't tolerate—that a man is sleeping with his father's wife.

And you are arrogant! Shouldn't you have been grieving instead, so that the person who did this could be removed from your community?

Even though I am absent physically, I am present in spirit. I have already judged the person who did this, just as if I were there with you.

So, when you are gathered together in the name of our Lord Jesus, and my spirit is with you, along with the power of our Lord Jesus,

you are to hand this man over to Satan to destroy his sinful nature, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord Jesus.

Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise?

Get rid of the old yeast so that you can be new dough, just as you are actually unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

Therefore, let's celebrate the festival not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.

I didn't mean you should completely avoid the sexually immoral people of this world, or the greedy, swindlers, or idol worshipers. If you did, you would have to leave this world entirely.

But what I meant was that you should not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral, or greedy, or worships idols, or is a slanderer, or a drunkard, or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.

What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Aren't you supposed to judge those inside?

God judges those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”
