Chapter 60

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

For the choir director. To the tune of “The Lily of the Covenant.” A teaching poem by David. This was written when he fought Aram Naharaim and Aram Zobah, and Joab returned and killed twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. God, you rejected us and broke us down. You were angry. Please restore us again.

You made the land tremble; you tore it apart. Repair its cracks, because it's shaking.

You made your people go through hard times. You gave us wine that made us stumble.

You have given a banner to those who respect you, so they can display it for the truth. Selah.

Save us with your strong hand and answer us, so that your loved ones can be rescued.

God has spoken from his holy place: “I will triumph. I will divide Shechem and measure out the valley of Succoth.

Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. Ephraim protects my head. Judah is my royal scepter.

Moab is my washbasin. I will throw my sandal on Edom. I will shout in triumph over Philistia.”

Who will lead me into the fortified city? Who has led me to Edom?

Haven't you, God, rejected us? God, you do not go out with our armies.

Give us help against our enemy, because human help is useless.

With God's help, we will be courageous, for he is the one who will defeat our enemies.
