For the main musician. A Psalm by David. I waited patiently for Yahweh. He turned to me and heard my cry.
He pulled me out of a terrible pit, out of the muddy ground. He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many people will see it, and be in awe, and will trust in Yahweh.
Blessed is the person who trusts in Yahweh, and doesn't respect the proud or those who follow lies.
Yahweh, my God, you have done many wonderful things, and you have many thoughts concerning us. They are too many to tell you about. If I tried to announce and speak of them, there would be more than I could count.
You didn't want sacrifices and offerings. You have opened my ears to listen. You didn't demand burnt offerings or sin offerings.
Then I said, "Here I am. It is written about me in the scroll of the book.
I love to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is in my heart."
I have shared the good news of your righteousness in the large assembly. I will not stop speaking, Yahweh, you know this.
I have not kept your righteousness hidden in my heart. I have openly declared your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not kept your unfailing love and your truth a secret from the large assembly.
Yahweh, do not hold back your compassion from me. Let your unfailing love and your truth always protect me.
Because countless troubles have surrounded me. My sins have caught up to me, so that I cannot even look up. They are more numerous than the hairs on my head. I have lost all courage.
Please, Yahweh, be willing to rescue me. Yahweh, hurry to help me.
May those who seek to destroy my life be ashamed and confused together. May those who enjoy my harm be driven back and disgraced.
May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!” be made desolate because of their shame.
May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. May those who love your salvation always say, “May Yahweh be honored!”
But I am poor and in need. May the Lord consider me. You are my helper and my rescuer. My God, do not delay.
