Chapter 132

Songs and prayers for every feeling.

A Song of Ascents. Yahweh, remember David and all his suffering,

how he made a promise to Yahweh, and an oath to the Mighty One of Jacob:

“I will not enter my house, nor get into my bed;

I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber;

until I find a place for Yahweh, a home for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Look, we heard about it in Ephrathah. We found it in the field of Jaar:

“We will go into his dwelling place. We will worship at his footstool.”

Rise up, Yahweh, and go to your resting place; you, and the ark of your power.

May your priests be clothed in righteousness. May your faithful people shout for joy!

For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your chosen king.

Yahweh has made a trustworthy promise to David, and he will not go back on it: “I will place one of your own descendants on your throne.

If your children obey my agreement and the instructions I give them, then their children will also rule on your throne forever.”

For Yahweh has chosen Zion; he wants it to be his home.

“This will be my resting place forever. Here I will live, for I have desired it.

I will bless Zion with abundant food and satisfy its poor with bread.

I will dress its priests in salvation, and its faithful people will shout for joy.

There I will make David’s royal line strong, and I have prepared a shining light for my chosen king.

I will cover his enemies with shame, but his own crown will shine brightly.”
