When Israel left Egypt, when the family of Jacob left a foreign-speaking people;
Judah became his holy place, Israel his kingdom.
The sea saw it and ran away. The Jordan River was driven back.
The mountains jumped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
What was it, sea, that made you run away? And you, Jordan, that made you turn back?
You mountains, why did you jump like rams; and you little hills, like lambs?
Tremble, earth, in the presence of the Lord, in the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool of water, and the hard rock into a spring of water.
