Chapter 12

Wisdom for everyday life.

1Whoever accepts correction loves knowledge, but anyone who hates being corrected is stupid.

2A good person will receive favor from Yahweh, but he will condemn someone who plans wicked things.

3No one can become secure through wickedness, but the foundation of good people will always stand firm.

4A good wife is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like a disease in his bones.

5The thoughts of good people are fair, but the advice of the wicked is misleading.

6The words of the wicked are about ambushing people to shed blood, but the words of honest people save them.

7The wicked are overthrown and disappear, but the family of good people will last.

8People will be praised according to their wisdom, but whoever has a twisted mind will be looked down upon.

9It is better to be humble and have a servant than to pretend to be important and have nothing to eat.

10A good person takes care of their animal, but even the kindness of the wicked is cruel.

11Whoever farms their land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases after unrealistic dreams lacks understanding.

12The wicked desire the ill-gotten gains of evil people, but the roots of good people grow strong.

13An evil person is trapped by their sinful words, but good people will escape trouble.

14A person will be satisfied with good things because of what they say. People will be rewarded for the work of their hands.

15A foolish person thinks their own way is right, but a wise person listens to advice.

16A foolish person quickly shows their anger, but someone who ignores an insult is smart.

17Someone who tells the truth testifies honestly, but a false witness lies.

18Some people speak thoughtlessly, like stabbing with a sword, but the words of the wise bring healing.

19Truthful words will last forever, but a lying tongue is only around for a moment.

20Those who plan evil have deceit in their hearts, but those who promote peace experience joy.

21No harm will come to righteous people, but wicked people will be filled with trouble.

22Yahweh detests lying lips, but he is pleased with those who act truthfully.

23A smart person keeps their knowledge to themselves, but fools openly proclaim their foolishness.

24Hard-working people will be in charge, but laziness leads to forced labor.

25Worry in a person's heart weighs them down, but a kind word cheers them up.

26A righteous person is careful about their friendships, but the path of the wicked leads them astray.

27A lazy person doesn't even cook what they catch, but diligent people value their possessions.

28There is life in the path of righteousness; along that road, there is no death.
