Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married.
They said, "Has Yahweh spoken only through Moses? Hasn't he spoken through us too?" Yahweh heard what they said.
Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on earth.
Suddenly, Yahweh spoke to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, "All three of you, come out to the Tent of Meeting!" So the three of them went out.
Yahweh came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tent. He called Aaron and Miriam, and both of them stepped forward.
He said, "Listen to my words: If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will reveal myself to him in visions and speak to him in dreams.
But my servant Moses is different; he is faithful in all my house.
I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles; he even sees the form of Yahweh. Why, then, were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"
Yahweh's anger burned against them, and he left.
When the cloud lifted from over the Tent, Miriam suddenly had leprosy; she was as white as snow. Aaron looked at Miriam and saw that she had leprosy.
Aaron said to Moses, "Please, my lord, don't hold this sin against us. We acted foolishly and sinned."
Please don't let her be like a stillborn baby, whose flesh is half decayed when it comes out of its mother's womb."
Moses cried out to Yahweh, "God, I beg you, heal her!"
Yahweh said to Moses, "If her father had only spit in her face, wouldn't she be shamed for seven days? Let her be kept outside the camp for seven days, and after that she can be brought back in."
So Miriam was kept outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not travel until Miriam was brought back in.
Afterward, the people traveled from Hazeroth and set up camp in the wilderness of Paran.
