This is a revelation about Nineveh. It is the book that contains the vision of Nahum, who was from Elkosh.
Yahweh is a jealous God and takes revenge. Yahweh takes revenge and is full of anger. Yahweh takes vengeance on his opponents and remains furious with his enemies.
Yahweh is slow to anger, but has great power, and he will certainly not let the guilty go unpunished. Yahweh controls the whirlwind and the storm, and the clouds are like the dust stirred up by his feet.
He speaks to the sea and makes it dry; he dries up all the rivers. The good land of Bashan and Carmel withers; and the beautiful flowers of Lebanon wither.
The mountains shake before him, and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, yes, the world and everyone living in it.
Who can stand before his outrage? Who can endure the intensity of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken apart by him.
Yahweh is good, a strong refuge in times of trouble; he knows those who trust in him.
But with a powerful flood, he will completely destroy their city and chase his enemies into darkness.
What are you plotting against Yahweh? He will bring about a complete end to it. Trouble will not happen a second time.
Like tangled thorns and drunk from their wine, they will be utterly consumed like dry straw.
Someone has come from your city who plans evil against Yahweh, who advises wickedness.
Yahweh says: “Even if they are strong and numerous, they will still be cut down and pass away. Though I have caused you suffering, I will not cause you to suffer anymore.”
Now I will break his burdensome power from you, and I will break your chains apart.
Yahweh has given a command about you: “Your name will no longer have descendants. From the house of your gods, I will destroy both carved and metal idols. I will prepare your grave, because you are worthless.”
Look! On the mountains are the feet of the one who brings good news, who announces peace! Celebrate your festivals, Judah! Fulfill your promises, for the wicked one will no longer pass through you. He is completely destroyed.
